Designer of the Day: Van Cleef & Arpels: Timeless, Chinoiserie, Inventive
As I walked through the Van Cleef & Arpels' exhibit at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum , I realized VC&A were the pioneers of jewelry design and function still relevant today. They are truly Timeless designs which look just as stylish today as they did 50 years ago.
There were many pieces inspired my nature and exotic locations. Of course my 3 favorites were inspired by Asian countries (Chinoiserie).
The designs and functions of the jewelry were very Inventive with zipper necklaces that actually zipped, stones set in the "magic setting" and large broaches that could be disassembled into a necklace, earrings and pin.
The exhibit is up until July 4th. For more info http://www.cooperhewitt.org/exhibitions/set-in-style/
